Music that makes room: a player you can minimise, a close button that closes, and more context for Kasem sayings in Indigen World 0.1.23
Indigen World 0.1.23: minimise the music player into a bubble you can move, close it for good, and add context to Kasem sayings.

Music in Indigen World now knows when to step aside. The player bar that follows you around the app can fold into a small round bubble, and you can put that bubble wherever it is out of your way. Closing the player now really closes it. And people sharing Kasem sayings from the app can now say what the words mean word for word, and when a saying is used.
What is new at a glance
- Minimise the music player: fold the player bar into a bubble that floats over the screen, while the music keeps playing.
- Put it where you like: drag the bubble to the left or right edge, at any height.
- Close means close: closing the player stops the music, clears it from your notifications and lock screen, and forgets where the song had got to.
- More context for Kasem sayings: the contribution form has places for a saying's literal wording and when it is used, and for a word's French meaning.
- Advertising on free accounts: where no Indigen World campaign is available, a Google advert can fill the same place. Paid memberships stay ad-free.
A music player that makes room
When you play a song from Music, a player bar appears along the bottom of the screen. It stays with you as you move around the app, so you can keep listening while you look up a word, take a lesson or read Community, and pause or skip without going back to Music.
That bar is useful, but it takes a strip off the bottom of every screen, and on some screens it sits over exactly the thing you came to use. Now you can put it away without stopping the music.
Minimise it
On the player bar, tap the down arrow, next to the close button. The bar folds into a small round bubble in the bottom-right corner of the screen. It stops just above the round buttons that some screens keep in that corner, such as the one for writing a new post, so it never covers them.
Nothing about the music changes. The same song keeps playing from the same place, at the same volume. While it plays, small bars move inside the bubble. When it is paused, the bubble shows a pause sign instead.
With the player minimised, screens use the space the bar used to take, so lists and pages run all the way to the bottom again.
Move it
Press and drag the bubble to wherever suits you. When you let go, it settles against the nearer edge of the screen, left or right, at the height you left it, so it never rests over the middle of what you are reading. It stays there as you move from screen to screen.
Bring it back
Tap the bubble and the full player bar comes back, playing the same song. Choosing a new song in Music brings the bar back too, so you can see what has started.
If you use a screen reader, the bubble says what is playing, or that it is paused, and that tapping it opens the player.
On wider phones, the player bar also has a new Previous button, so you can go back a song without opening the full player. On narrower screens there is not room for it beside the song's name; use the full player, or the controls in your notifications, instead.
One fix as well: press and hold any button on the player bar to see its name. Before this update, holding a button there could briefly turn it grey.
Closing the player now closes it
Tap the X on the player bar to close the player. In this version that means you are finished with the song:
- the music stops;
- the player disappears from the app, and the song is cleared from your notifications and your lock screen;
- the app forgets where the song had got to, so it does not come back the next time you open Indigen World;
- the play button on headphones, or on a car stereo that connects by Bluetooth, will not start the album again.
Only the X does this. If you pause a song and then swipe its notification away, the song stays ready in the app, as it did before, and you can carry on from the player bar.
More context for Kasem sayings
A Kasem saying carries more than a short English meaning. The words themselves often paint a picture, and a saying belongs to a moment: a greeting at a funeral, a warning to a child, something only elders say. When you contribute a saying, idiom or proverb from the app, the form now has places for that:
- Literal English translation: what the Kasem words say, word for word.
- When is this saying used? The occasion, who says it, the lesson it teaches, or where it is said differently.
- French meaning: for sayings and for dictionary words, if you know it.
All three are optional. If you are not sure, leave the box empty. An empty box is better than a guess, and a reviewer or another speaker can add it later. The form still asks where the knowledge came from, and for permission to share it for review.
These details stay with your contribution through review. Once it is approved and published, its page in the dictionary shows the French meaning, the literal translation and when it is used, alongside the meaning, pronunciation and examples. The Indigen World website and the Kasem Dictionary website show them too.
Advertising on free accounts
Indigen World has always had a few sponsored places in Community, Explore and Collection, for campaigns placed directly with us. Those campaigns still come first. Starting with this version, when one of those places has no Indigen World campaign to show, the app can ask Google for an advert to fill it instead.
- No new places, and no pop-ups. Adverts appear only where sponsored posts already could, at the same spacing. In Explore that is one page of the feed that you swipe past, as a sponsored reel always was. No advert pops up over what you are doing, none appears when the app opens, and there are no videos you have to watch to unlock anything.
- Only for guests and free accounts. Indigen Plus, Patron and Creator members see no advertising at all: no Indigen World campaigns and no Google adverts.
- Your choice comes first. Where the law requires it, including in Europe and the UK, the app asks before any Google advert is requested, and Do not consent is one tap. You can change your answer later in Settings → Advertising privacy choices.
- Nothing gets in the way. If there is no suitable advert, you are offline, or you have said no, the place simply closes up.
Adverts help pay for the servers, recordings and review work behind the archive, alongside the members who subscribe. The in-app privacy notice explains what Google may process to show and measure an advert.
How to get it
- Open Google Play and search for Indigen World.
- Tap Update. If you only see Open, the update has not reached your phone yet; try again later.
- To check, open your profile, go to Settings, and look at the Indigen World row at the bottom. It should say Version 0.1.23 (32).
Then play something from Collection → Music, such as De N Lei — Come Learn Kasem, and tap the down arrow on the player bar.
Not here yet
- A bubble that follows you out of the app. The bubble lives inside Indigen World. Outside the app, use the music controls in your notifications or on your lock screen, as before.
- Minimising on iPhone. This update is for Android.
- Context for older dictionary entries. Entries published before this update gain literal translations, usage notes and French meanings only as they are added and reviewed.
Tell us how the new player feels in daily use, and which sayings you would like to see explained next.
